Baby Swimwear Fit Guide: How It Should Fit

Many Splash About baby swimming products rely on a proper fit, making it essential to select the right size. Some products, however, do not require as precise a fit. In this guide, we will explore each product type, provide advice on the best measuring techniques, and explain how they should fit.

Happy Nappy™ Product Range

The Happy Nappy™ product range is designed for a snug fit, with specialist ribs around the thighs and waist to effectively contain solids. It’s essential for these products to fit closely against your child’s skin to ensure optimal leak protection and comfort. However, make sure there’s enough room to run a finger around the inside of the seal to prevent chafing or redness.

When fitted correctly, the Happy Nappy™ should cup the baby’s bottom, with the back of the nappy sitting slightly higher than the front. The top of the nappy should reach the belly button, and the thigh seals should sit at the top of the baby’s thighs without cutting into the skin.

How to measure for a Happy Nappy™ or a Happy Nappy Duo™

To ensure the best fit for your baby, we strongly recommend using our size guide. While the Happy Nappy™ and Happy Nappy Duo™ are available in age range sizes, these should be used as a general guide only. Babies come in all shapes and sizes, so one nappy size may not fit every baby within the same range.

Avoid measuring your baby immediately after feeding, as this can affect the measurements.

To measure, lie your baby down and measure the circumference of their body by placing the tape measure over the belly button. Then, measure the circumference of the fullest part of their thigh.

How to measure for a Happy Nappy™ Wetsuit/Sunsuit

Our Happy Nappy™ Wetsuit and Sunsuits require the same proper fit as the Happy Nappy™ and Happy Nappy Duo™, as they both include an integrated Happy Nappy™. Therefore, please apply the same measuring guidelines used for the Happy Nappy™. Additionally, it's helpful to measure your baby’s chest and height to ensure the suit fits properly all over. The chest circumference should be taken with the tape under the baby’s arms, across the fullest part of the chest. Height should be measured from the top of the shoulder to the crotch.

The Happy Nappy™ Wetsuit functions like an adult wetsuit, so it must fit closely to trap a layer of water that keeps your baby warm while in the water. The Sunsuit, on the other hand, can have a little extra room at the top, provided the Happy Nappy™ bottom fits as described above.

How to measure for a Happy Nappy™ Swimsuit

The Happy Nappy™ Swimsuit follows the same measuring guidelines as the Happy Nappy™ Wetsuit and Happy Nappy™ Sunsuit. The Happy Nappy™ portion of the swimsuit must fit according to the Happy Nappy™ guidelines mentioned at the beginning of this article, but the top does not need to fit tightly. It features thick straps that won't fall down, even if the top is slightly larger.

As with the Happy Nappy™ and Happy Nappy Duo™, avoid measuring your baby immediately after a feed. Begin by measuring the tummy circumference across the belly button, followed by the thigh circumference at its fullest part. Next, measure the baby’s chest and height: for the chest circumference, place the tape under the baby’s arms and around the fullest part of the chest. Height should be measured from the top of the shoulder to the crot

How to measure for a Baby Wrap

To determine the correct Baby Wrap size, you will need to measure your baby’s chest circumference and their height from shoulder to crotch.

To measure the chest, wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your baby’s chest, under their arms and around their back. Next, measure from the top of their shoulder to their crotch. Keep in mind that Baby Wraps are designed to last several months, so if your baby is at the upper end of a size range, it may be worth considering the next size up to ensure you get plenty of wear.

Once you have obtained these measurements, refer to our size guide to find the perfect fit.

How to measure for a Warm In One

The Warm in One is a fleece-lined full-body suit. Unlike the Happy Nappy™ Wetsuit, it does not need to fit closely and can be worn slightly oversized. Designed with long sleeves and legs, it can also be worn a bit shorter to accommodate growth.

To find the correct fit, measure the circumference of your baby’s chest—under their arms and around their back—and the length from the highest point of their shoulder to their crotch. Once you have these measurements, refer to our size guide to help you select the correct size. If your baby’s measurements are at the upper end of a size, consider opting for the next size up.
